"Designer Selects"
In a world full of natural surfacing materials, where do pros' loyalties lie?
When interior designers talk about their favorite natural resources for surfacing, the conversations turn ephemeral. The handmade bark paper used by
Markham Roberts is available in both neutral and emphatic colors.
"I love the way bark paper feels and looks," says designer Markham Roberts. The subtle differences from square to square of the textured surfacing, which is handmade from
real bark using time-honored techniques, "lends a varied pattern and unusual texture to a wall," he adds. "It creates a beautiful backdrop, and works well with all types
of artwork and diverse pieces of furniture." Roberts is framed by Santa Fe's Caba Company barkskin on the wall of the James Sansum Gallery, in New York, which he designed.
