In this episode, decorator Markham Roberts takes Alexa Hampton and Leslie Keno on a tour of a 15,000 square foot "cottage" in Southampton. The new construction fits right in with the historic houses in this old-moneyed, tree-lined neighborhood.
"It's all in the layering," he says. Perhaps the biggest success of the project is the fresh look of an updated, classic interior -- all this complimented by the architectural feel of a shingle style house having been there for a hundred years.
This recently completed, luxuriously comfortable weekend house boasts nine bedrooms, a cinema, spa, wine cellar, pool and Bacci court. Never daunted by its massive size, Roberts made the house as comfortable for two as it is for two hundred.
His expertise set this house apart. Whether it's found in the easy and comfortable seating throughout the house or in the completely functional state of the art kitchen, the house has a unifying sense of ease and old world charm, rarely seen in new construction.
